Three Sixty Rooftop Bar and Lounge
Millenium Hilton Hotel, 32nd fl.
123 Charoen Nakhon Road
Khlong San, Khlong San
Opening hours: Daily 5pm-1am
There are no shortage of towering rooftop bars around Bangkok for sweeping views of the concrete jungle as the sun goes down with an accompanying drink in hand as one of the best nightlife activities the city has to offer. Away from the hustle and bustle of the central districts is the upscale Millennium Hilton Hotel on the Thonburi side of the river as the tallest structure in the vincinity, and its corresponding rooftop bar area from 32 floors above ground. Despite its out-of-the-way location, it is easily reachable by the complimentary shuttle boat service from Sathorn Pier and River City.
The Three Sixty Bar has the advantage of unobstructed views facing towards the inner city from the opposite riverbank whilst overlooking the meandering bends of the river and activity down below, therefore being one of the best vantage points in Bangkok. Unlike some of the more popular haunts such as Sirocco Sky Bar at the golden-domed Lebua State Tower nearby, it is not overcrowded with tourists and provides a more relaxed, stylish experience with a classy crowd. This is probably due to its more low key surroundings and distance away from the main draws of the central business district and Sukhumvit Road, which can also be seen as an advantage for this underrated gem.
Three Sixty consists of two separate areas – the open-air space and an indoor lounge. The outdoor bar features views of the riverside facing north and southwards around a raised level with grass, a large tree in the middle and surrounding greenery for a garden-like feel, and cushioned seats mainly facing the sunset side. The best view however is towards the direction of Taksin Bridge, where one can observe the rush hour traffic going across alongside the Skytrain, as well as various commuter, shuttle, and dinner cruise boats drawing trails in the surface of the water as they glide past. Many notable landmarks can also be seen from here such as the nearby riverside hotels, historical buildings, office towers, condominiums, bridges, the construction site of the luxury Icon Siam property development, as well as the local communities on both sides of the Chao Phraya. A cooling breeze and spacious ambiance makes it the ideal place to sit back and watch the world go by on a nice clear day.
On the other side of the complex is the panoramic cupola that is perched on top of the building resembling a flying saucer. As the name suggests, the almost floor-to-ceiling windows curving around the dimly-lit room provides an unparalleled 360-degree view over the river, city lights, and changing colours of the sky for a unique setting that would impress anyone. Happy hour runs from 5 to 7pm with buy one get one free on selected drinks. Live jazz performances later in the night adds to the sophisticated vibe, and if one is lucky to visit on a holiday or special occasion taking place such as a wedding, will have a up-close view of the fireworks display.
